Meta's AI Assistant in Ads Manager: What's Live vs Still in Testing (2026)

Meta demoed an AI assistant inside Ads Manager at Advertising Week New York. Most of the headline 'it runs your ads' features are still in testing, so here's the honest split for Indian D2C teams.

Meta's AI business assistant is coming to Ads Manager, but the agent that builds campaigns and moves budgets is still in testing. Here's what D2C can use now.

The headline said the agent runs your ads. Read the fine print.

If you follow ad news, you saw the same line everywhere after Advertising Week New York in October 2026: Meta's AI can now run your Facebook and Instagram campaigns for you. Founders started forwarding those posts to me within a day, usually with some version of "do we even need to touch Ads Manager now?"

Here's the honest answer. Meta did show an AI business assistant that lives inside Ads Manager, and the long-term direction is real. But the specific thing people got excited about, an agent that plans a campaign, writes the creative, sets the targeting and moves your budget, is in early testing. Meta's own language was "soon." It is not switched on in your account, and Meta didn't name a date.

So this post isn't a hype recap. It's the split every D2C team actually needs: what you can use this week, what's still a demo, and what to do now so you're ready when the agent does arrive.

What's genuinely live right now

A few things from the announcement are real and usable, and they matter more than the agent chatter.

Customer Lifecycle Strategy is live for all advertisers. It lets you steer Advantage+ campaigns toward either acquiring new customers or re-engaging existing ones, which is the single most useful lever for a D2C brand that's tired of paying prospecting prices to reach people who already bought last month. The related Audience Label exclusion piece is still in test, but the core capability is on.

Advantage+ video from static assets is generally available. Feed it your existing product stills and it builds short video variants. For a small Indian brand shooting on a phone between restocks, that's a cheap way to get motion into the feed without a production day.

Ads Creative Studio is rolling out to more advertisers. It's where Meta is parking its creative generation and insights, and the assistant pulls from it.

None of these need you to trust an agent with your budget. They're tools you drive. If you only act on one thing from the Advertising Week news, it's turning on Customer Lifecycle Strategy and splitting your acquisition and retention spend on purpose instead of letting one Advantage+ campaign blur them.

What's still in testing (so don't plan around it)

This is the part the headlines skipped. Here's where the agent dream actually sits.

Feature Status What it's meant to do
Assistant agentic actions Early testing, "soon" Plan and create campaigns, generate creative, edit targeting and budgets by chat
Scheduled tasks and alerts In testing Recurring reports, ROAS anomaly and budget-pacing alerts
Brand guideline / voice import In testing Teach the assistant your brand so output matches
AI audience discovery (Detailed Targeting) Not live, targeted for end of 2026 Surface new audience segments automatically
Smart product recommendations Scaling this fall Suggest which catalog products to push
Catalog product video Beta, eligible advertisers Auto-generate video from catalog items

Read that table before you tell your team "Meta does this now." Most of it is a roadmap. The agent that writes and ships a campaign is the least finished piece of the whole announcement, which is the opposite of the impression you'd get from your feed.

Meta did share one performance claim: advertisers using the assistant "typically" see about 5% more conversions at the same cost per conversion. Take that as a vendor figure, not a guarantee. Meta hasn't published how it was measured, over what window, or for which kinds of accounts. A 5% lift is plausible and also easy to produce by cherry-picking, so I'd treat it as a reason to test later, not a number to put in a forecast.

The India reality check

One line from the briefings deserves its own paragraph: Meta listed no country availability for any of these features. That's not Meta hiding anything, it's just how these launches go. The US sees them first, a slice of other markets follows, and India usually lands somewhere in that second wave.

So the practical rule for an Indian D2C brand is simple. Don't assume you have a feature because you read about it. Open Ads Manager, look for the assistant icon in the top navigation, and check what's actually clickable in your account. What's live in a US agency's screenshot and what's live in your Mumbai-based ad account can be months apart.

The checkout pieces hiding behind the assistant news

The assistant grabbed the headlines, but Meta used the same week to push on something that matters more for a D2C P&L: buying without leaving Meta's apps. Two pieces are worth knowing about, both still in testing.

Direct checkout inside Messenger, through the Meta Business Agent and built with Shopify, lets a shopper complete a purchase in the chat thread. And direct checkout inside Meta AI, supported by Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe, is set to begin testing this fall. Neither is live for everyone, and Meta again named no countries, so for an Indian store these are "watch and plan," not "wire up today."

Why flag them in a post about the assistant? Because they change what your ads are driving toward. If a chunk of purchases eventually happens inside Messenger or Meta AI rather than on your site, your attribution, your retention emails and your post-purchase flows all have to account for orders that never touched your own checkout. That's a planning conversation to have now, quietly, before it's a reporting mess during a sale.

One more number from the briefings worth keeping in mind: Meta says more than 60% of time spent on Facebook and Instagram is now with video. That's the reason so many of the live tools, Advantage+ video from static assets, catalog product video, point the same way. If your creative is still mostly stills, the platform is telling you where it wants you to be, independent of any agent.

How agentic ad buying will actually feel

It helps to picture the end state honestly, because it's neither "Meta runs everything" nor "nothing changes."

When the agentic actions do ship, you'll describe an outcome in chat, say a Diwali-to-year-end push for your bestselling SKUs at a target cost per purchase, and the assistant will draft the campaign structure, pull creative from Creative Studio, propose targeting and a budget split, and wait for you to approve or edit. The assistant keeps memory across conversations, so it won't ask you the same setup questions every time.

That's genuinely useful. It's also exactly why your inputs matter. An agent that inherits a messy account, with campaigns named "test 3 final FINAL," no brand guidelines, and overlapping audiences, will confidently produce messy output faster. The quality of what it ships is capped by the quality of what it learns from.

What to do this month

You can't use the agent yet, but you can make sure it's useful the day it arrives for you. A short prep list:

Write a one-page brand guideline the assistant can eventually import: your tone, the three things you always say, the claims you can't make, the offers you never run. Even before Meta's import tool ships, that page makes your own creative and copy more consistent.

Fix your naming convention across campaigns and ad sets so structure is readable. Agents reason over what they can parse.

Turn on Customer Lifecycle Strategy and actually separate acquisition from retention spend, because that's live and it's the highest-impact move in the whole announcement.

Audit your audiences for overlap before AI audience discovery lands, so you're adding new segments to a clean base rather than a tangle.

Decide, as a team, what you'll never let an agent do without a human check. Budget changes above a threshold and new claims in copy are the usual two. Writing that policy now is easier than writing it in a panic later.

If you'd rather have an experienced team run and supervise this shift, from Advantage+ structure to the agentic tools as they roll out, that's the core of our performance marketing work with Indian D2C brands.

The takeaway

Meta's Advertising Week 2026 news is real, but it's a direction, not a finished product. The assistant is live in spirit and partly in features, the agent that runs your account is still a test. The most useful response isn't to wait for the agent or to believe the headline, it's to clean up your accounts and inputs in the meantime. Do the boring prep now, and the clever automation will have something good to work with when it finally reaches your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can Meta's AI assistant create campaigns for me today?
No. Meta showed the agentic actions, planning and creating campaigns, editing targeting and budgets, as early testing with a 'soon' timeline. Treat it as a preview, not a live feature.
What parts of the announcement are actually live?
Customer Lifecycle Strategy is live for all advertisers, Advantage+ video from static assets is generally available, and Ads Creative Studio is rolling out to more advertisers.
Is the assistant available in India yet?
Meta listed no country availability for any of these tools. Rollouts usually reach India after the US, so check Ads Manager rather than assuming access.
Should I wait for the agent before fixing my account?
No. The agent inherits whatever structure and inputs you give it. Clean naming, clear brand guidelines and tidy audiences now will make its suggestions far more useful later.
